A strong, impulsive price movement characterized by multiple consecutive candles in the same direction with little overlap.
Deep Dive
Displacement refers to a strong, impulsive price move characterized by multiple consecutive candles in the same direction with minimal overlap between them. This type of move indicates institutional aggression - significant orders being executed with conviction.
Displacement moves are significant because they confirm institutional participation. A gradual price move might be retail-driven, but displacement (especially during killzones) shows smart money is active. Displacement also creates fair value gaps/imbalances that become high-probability trading zones.
When analyzing order blocks, the ones that led to displacement moves are the most significant. The strength of the displacement indicates the strength of the institutional intent. Look for order blocks and FVGs created by displacement for the highest-probability setups.
Why It Matters
Displacement indicates institutional aggression and confirms the validity of order blocks and FVGs.
